The river Wear at Chester Moor is owned jointly by Durham and Hartlepool angling clubs and known as Dunelm AA water.

Access is not good, the official access is along the north bank of the burn which runs into the Wear to top end of the water. There is access to the bottom end of the water via the footpath from the residential houses at Crichton Avenue and also along the bridal path close the the Croxdale Fast-Fit Auto centre on the south bound  dual carriage way. The river is a little bigger here than stretches further upstream and has produced some good match weights of both chub and dace. Barbel have started to show in recent years and some good perch have been reported. Chub weights of up to 100lb were recorded during the summer of 2005.

This section has two bailiffs patrol it and report findings to the committee.. It is good for game and coarse fishing along the stretch with a good run of game fish showing. There are some fantastic Chub and some good but hard to catch Barbel in this section along with other species of coarse fish. It has had a dangerous weed spraying project started on it and we will continue with this as an on-going plan to aid better access and fishing for all.
